SUMMARY    

Under direction of the supervisor and lead, the Environmental Services (EVS) Technician performs a variety of environmental service duties to maintain a clean, neat, orderly, sanitary and safe environment at OIC.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintains and cleans all patient rooms, offices, hallways, lobbies, lounges, restrooms, elevators and stairways so that health standards are met.
• Empties wastebaskets and transports trash disposal area.
• Sweeps, scrubs, and polishes floors using brooms/ mops. 
• Dusts and polishes furniture and equipment.
• Cleans and polishes baseboards and door guards.
• Arrives to work on time and is at workstation and ready to perform duties at start of shift.
• Dilutes cleaning solutions in accordance with directions/department policies.
• Properly labels all chemical containers and spray bottles.
• Uses proper safety measures when handling tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.
• Performs housekeeping and laundry duties depending on placement of location and department needs.
• Respects patient confidentiality by not discussing patient issues. 
• Requires manual dexterity to effectively use equipment of various types and/or complexity
• Refers all complaints problems/concerns to Manager. 
• Participates in orientation of new associates and cross-training of associates.
• Adheres to established departmental policies and procedures, legal, safety, environmental, infection control standards and Patient’s Bill of Rights.
• Performs other duties and assigned and/or requested.

• Uses proper safety measures when task involve exposure to blood, body fluids or tissue.  
• Maintains all cleaning supplies, cleaning carts and utility closets neat and orderly.
• Identifies and corrects safety hazards.

• Be visionary and have the ability to maintain assigned areas.
• Ability to comprehend and interpret instructions, short correspondence, and memos and ask clarifying questions to ensure understanding 
• Ability to write routine reports

• Ability to effectively present information to departments and/or large groups of employees.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School diploma or GED Equivalent
• Ability to read, write and speaking English and follow oral and written instructions as required.
• Two to four (2-4) years of related experience required.
• Experience with healthcare environment preferred.
• Bilingual Spanish preferred. 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

The EVS Technician works a variable shift schedules including morning, evening, weekends and holidays. Ability to work variable schedules and rotate between shifts, standby for emergency call back on an occasional basis is required.

Complexity:

Ability to perform highly detailed work with sustained attention and ware while providing/obtaining information on numerous inquiries is paramount to success in this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

For performing the job duties include: Continuous (66-100% of the time) walking, standing, bending, sitting and verbally communicating with staff.   Requires a high level of dexterity and accurate eyesight for the safe handling of all cleaning products and equipment.  May need to lift or carry equipment and supplies up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Exposure to weather, dust, fumes, electrical currents and machine noises. May be exposed to chemicals and biohazards of building maintenance (i.e., lead, asbestos, blood pathogens, sewage, and hospital waste). Wearing of protective personal equipment is required.
